I am of the firm opinion that 3D printed models are not quite good enough for general use just yet. However, they don't have much further to go and when printed in the best quality is certainly good enough for some oddball projects. Case in the point, this very ship (from Mel Miniatures).
The top half is pretty good with very little of the tell tale signs of 3D printing. The sides are not as smooth but it is something that you have to expect with 3D printed models. Some printing angles just doesn't produce the best result. Still, I found it acceptable and besides, the level of detail didn't really suffer. Heck, if anything I would say that there are almost too many panels on this ship! As always, enjoy!
